Abstract
PURPOSE:To separate blood serums from the solid matter such as blood cells very simply by a barrier which continuous pores >=40% porosity and 50-400mu diameter and consists of the columnar elastic porous material of a true specific gravity large than that of serum components and has a hard layer formed on the bottom face. CONSTITUTION:Barrier 1 has continuous pores and consists of headed conical elastic porous column material 1a of a true specific gravity larger than that of serum components and hard layer 1b formed on the bottom face of the small-diameter part of material 1a. The diameter of the upper part of this barrier 1 is larger than that of the transverse section of the lumen of blood-collecting tube 3, and the diameter of the lower part becomes small practically. it is remarkable for this barrier that the elastic material having specific continuous pores can be used as a phase separating material as it is; and though it is necessary that the true specific gravity of the barrier is larger than that of serums, it is unnecessary that it is smaller than that of the phase of solid components in blood if it is within the range of no fear of hemolysis. Since the barrier has the large specific gravity, serums are separated rapidly even by a weak centrifugal force.
