Abstract

PURPOSE:To shift gaseous oxygen from one side of a conductive electrolyte layer of oxygen ion to the opposite side by forming a photoelectrode made of n-TiO2 on one side of the layer and an oxygen electrode on the other side, applying light energy to the photoelectrode, and short-circuiting both the electrodes. CONSTITUTION:Photoelectrode 2 made of n-TiO2 and provided with current collectors 3 is formed on one side of conductive electrolyte layer 1 of oxygen ion, and oxygen electrode 4 provided with current collectors 5 on the other side. By applying light energy to photoelectrode 2 and short-circuiting collectors 3, 5 through lead wire 6, oxygen ions are generated at electrode 4 as a cathode. Since an electric current flows from the cathode to the anode, gaseous oxygen shifts from the cathode to the anode together with the current.
