PURPOSE:To ensure the optimin video heat tracking in the reproduction mode, by shifting in a certain degree the recording position of the control signal to the recording position of the video track and in accordance with the tape speed in the picture recording mode. CONSTITUTION:The several different speeds can be set for the magnetic tape 1 in the picture recording mode, and a video track pitch width smaller than the width of the video head 2 can be obtained by setting the speed of the tape at a proper level. A compensation is given previously and during a recording to a variation of the center height of the video track which is caused with every switching of the tape speed. The vertical synchronous signal obtained through the vertical synchronous signal separating circuit 16 is made to pass through the 1st-3rd delaying circuits 17-19 in accordance with each speed of the tape. The output of each delaying circuit is switched by the switching circuit 20 and in coupling to a tape speed changeover switch and then supplied to the control signal recording amplifier 21. The output of the amplifier 21 is recorded to the control head 5 via the record/ reproduction switching circuit 22.
