Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a test medium for the rapid identification of microorganisms, by adding a specific amount of a carbohydrate and one or more salts to a base medium composed mainly of hydrolyzed protein.
CONSTITUTION: A carbohydrate-utilization test medium for impedance method is prepared by adding 2.5W10gr/l of a carbohydrate such as glucose, inositol, xylose, lactose, sucrose, etc. and 1W10gr/l of one or more inorganic salts of sodium, potassium, magnesium, etc. to a medium composed mainly of hydrolyzed proteins such as peptone, tryptone, meat extract, etc. The medium thus obtained exhibits particular impedance change in the carbohydrate-utilization test by impedance method, and the change can be utilized for the identification of bacteria.
