Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove malodor efficiently by adding a specific amount of ozone to a gas contg. malodorous components and allowing the same to contact with a noble metal catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: The catalyst prepd. by immersing carriers of alumina, silica or the like in an aqueous soln. contg. the compound of noble metals such as Pt and pulling up the same from the soln., and drying these thence calcining the carriers at a temp. below 250°C thereby carrying Pt at 0.5W2.0wt% on the carrier surfaces are used as the catalysts for removing malodor. Activated alumina having 50W 600m2/g surface areas such as γ-alumina or η-alumina is used for the alumina of the carriers used. In order to remove malodor, ozone is added at 0.5W20 concn. ratios to the gas contg. malodorous components of sulfur compound type, nitrogen compound type, hydrocarbon type, and aldehydes and these are reacted in the presence of the above-mentioned catalysts at a temp. higher by 5W50°C than the temp. of the malodorous gas, whereby the malodorous components are oxidized and removed.
