When a scanner 1 is detected by an A4 size sensor S1, the output S1S of the sensor opens a switch SW2 through an AND gate 1, a reference voltage Vs is reduced in the amount corresponding to the voltage drop of a resistor R, and a low deceleration is applied to a motor M for driving the scanner. When the switch SW1 is closed at A3 side, the Q' output of the flip-flop FF becomes ''1''. When the scanner 1 is detected by an A3 size sensor S2, the output S2S from the sensor closes the switch SW2 through an AND gate 2. Thus, the resistor R is shortcircuited, and high deceleration is applied to the motor M.
