Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve S/N of a picture while maintaining interchangeability with a conventional video unit by converting a color burst signal component into a pulse waveform and then by recording it on a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:From a color signal input to terminal 1, a luminance signal is extracted through low-pass filter 2 and a chrominance signal is also extracted through band-pass filter 3. The chrominance signal is converted by frequency converter 6 from 3.58MHz to 688KHz on the low frequency side. This signal is supplied to one input terminal 8a of switching circuit 7 and also to the other input terminal 8b via limiter 9. Switching circuit 7 is switched with pulses that coincide with a burst signal period. A burst signal can therefore be obtained in a rectangular pulse waveform, so that an error at a zero-cross point can be reduced.
