Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce treatment cost and, at the same time, to perform sludge treatment efficiently in the course of activated sludge purifying treatment of polluted water, by utilizing the methane gas recovered from the digesting tank effectively to operate the generator.
CONSTITUTION: Polluted water 1, such as municipal sewage, industrial wastewater, etc., is supplied into 1st sedimentation tank 2, and separated into the supernatant water and sludge. The supernatant water is supplied into aeration tank 3 and treated for activated sludge. The treated water is sent to 2nd sedimentation tank 4 and the sludge is settled and, at the same time, a part of the water is returned to aerating tank 3 and the rest is treated for forced condensing treatment by forced condenser 8. The sludge in 1st sedimentation tank 2 is settled and condensed at settling condenser tank 5, and then put in digesting tank 6 together with the sludge from forced condenser 7. The sludge in digesting tank 6 is methane fermented, and after the organic matter is digested the sludge is supplied to dehydrator 10 through mixing tank 9, and then the condensed sludge is dehydrated and the dehydrated cake is burnt at burning furnace 11. In this case, the methane gas produced at digesting tank 6 is used for operating generator 13 after it is reserved in said tank 2, and the electric power is used for driving forced condenser 7.
