Abstract

PURPOSE: To decontaminate a waste solution, even of a high concentration, which was discharged in a steel industry and used as a cleaning solution or the like in a degreasing step, a rust-removing step or the like, by effectively separating contaminants from the waste solution by reactions such as oxidation, decomposition, adsorption, neutralization, etc.
CONSTITUTION: Waste solutions from an acid pickling step or a cleaning step are generally classified to a solution of a lower concentration and a solution of a higher concentration. These waste solution contain sodium silicate, surfactants, polybasic acids, zinc phosphate, oils, fats, metal ions, etc. In disposing these solutions, the neutralization with an alkali is sufficient as for the solution of a lower concentration, but the addition of a chlorine-based oxidant to oxidize ferrous ions to a trivalent state is necessary as for the solution of a higher concentration. An alkaline reagent is added to the oxidized solution to neutralize it. The alkaline reagent is calcium hydroxide capable of forming insoluble salts by the neutralization reaction. Thereafter, the precipitates are separated from the solution.
