PURPOSE:To make it possible to remove iron content from a total iron measuring reagent by a single treatment without using injurious solvent, by adding iron reducing agent and bathophenantroline acetic acid solution or ethanol solution to the reagent, and filtering thus produced precipitate. CONSTITUTION:500g of a total iron measuring reagent (ammonium acetate and hydroxylamine hydrochloride) for measuring iron content in hoiler water and boiler- supplying water is dissolved in water to produce 1 litre of solution, and to this solution, in the case of using ammonium acetate as an iron reducing agent, 10ml of water solution of hydroxylamine hydrochloride (10w/v%) and also 10ml of bathophenantroline acetic acid solution or ethanol solution (1/400M) are added. Thus, mixed solution is agitated for more than 1hr and set still for 24hr, and then by using a millipore filter having small holes of 1.2mu in diameter, thus formed complex precipitate is filtered to produce iron-free reagent solution. In this process, unlike the conventional process, it is possible to obtain a large quantity of iron-free solution by a single treatment without using injurious solvent.
