Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the efficiency of water separation from a dicarboxylic acid in crystallization, by adding an inorganic acid to a fermented solution from which microbial cells are previously separated to make pH not larger than 4.0, followed by heating the solution so that the dicarboxylic acid is partly dissolved or partly melted.
CONSTITUTION: An inorganic acid is added to a fermented solution from which microbial cells are previously separated so that the pH of the fermented solution is adjusted to not larger than 4.0 and a dicarboxylic acid is crystallized. The solution is heated and the dicarboxylic acid is partly dissolved and partly method. The solution is then cooled with stirring to precipitate the crystal of the dicarboxylic acid. Thus, the purification of the dicarboxylic acid is carried out. Succinic acid, adipic acid, pimelic acid, etc. may be cited as the dicarboxylic acid. An n-paraffin having the same carbon atom numbers as that of the desired dicarboxylic acid is used as the raw material to be used for the preparation of the dicarboxylic acid by fermentation using a microorganism. The heating temperature of the fermented solution is not lower than the melting point of the dicarboxylic acid and preferably reflux temperature.
