Abstract

CONSTITUTION: A coenzyme-producing fungus, e.g., Paecilomyces varioti No.9215, Asperigillus clavatus IAM2041, etc. is cultivated in a solid medium comprising wheat, rice, corn, crushed grain, and, if necessary, blended with yeast extract, an organic substance, e.g., extract from soybean, etc., an inorganic salt, e.g., ammonium slat, nitrate, etc., and vitamin, etc. Water is sprinkled on the medium and it is boiled and steamed. A seed fungus is inoculated on the medium and settled or aerated cultivation is carried out. A mixture of methanol, pyrogallol, and sodium hydroxide is added to the solid culture, which is subjected to saponification and extraction. A coenzyme shown by the formula is extracted from the saponified solution with n-hexane. The coenzyme is subjected to fractional, purification by a column, crystallized from ethanol and isolated.
