Abstract

PURPOSE:To ensure a high-compression coding for the TV signal having a high predicting efficiency and a high picture quality, by using an adaptive predicting system that follows a motion and requires no motion information. CONSTITUTION:The digitized TV signals are stored in the memory 2 by an amount equivalent to a field. At the same time, a block comprising nXn units of picture elements is produced through the block producing circuit 3 and then stored in the block memory 4 until the value of prediction is decided. When the value of prediction is decided, a delay is given to the present block by the delay circuit 5 to store the block in the block memory 6. Then the motions under the areas between fields and between frames are detected by the motion detecting circuit 7 and from the output of the memory 6 and the value of the picture element in the preceding field stored in the frame memory 8. A prediction is given through a predicting circuit to the adjacent block right to the analogous block in the preceding field and before the analogous block detected by the analogous block detecting circuit 9. This value of prediction is subtracted from the corresponding picture element in the memory 4 for a quantization to be supplied to a coder from the output terminal 15 via the adder 13 and the buffer memory 14. In such a way, a highly efficient high-compression coding is made possible.
