Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase an accuracy of prediction and to improve the efficiency of predicted coding by predicting the optimum predicting system in the next picture element appearing time, by taking into consideration the spacial distribution of the optimum prediction system corresponding to the picture element has been coded. CONSTITUTION:The difference between the input multivalue picture signal fed from an input terminal 11 and the prediction signal from a selector 14 is given, and prediction error signal is produced at a subtractor 12 and after it is quantized at the quantizer 15, it is output and fed to an adder 17 and the prediction signal is partially produced with the prediction signal. The decoded signal is input to the predictor 13 and the prediction signal is produced with a plurality of prediction systems. A plurality of prediction signals and the local decoding signal are compared at the optimum prediction decision circuit 18 to order the optimum prediction systems, and the prediction system used for the picture time is decided at the discrimination circuit 21 and the prediction signals are selected and output.
