Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the number of tone wedges, by allotting the number (i) (i= 1∼n) to each position within a block of (n) picture elements and the number (j) (j=1∼m) to each block and then allotting the threshold level sequence k= m(j- 1)+j to the i-th picture element of the block (j) respectively.
CONSTITUTION: A screen is divided into the blocks (c) of the same form and same picture element (i). The number of picture elements is defined 1∼n, and (n) is set to 8 to allot the numerical value of 1∼8 at each position within the block (c). Then (m) units of number (j)(j=1∼4) are allotted regularly to the block (c), and the threshold level sequence value (k) of each picture element is decided through an operation performed based on k=m(i-1)+j. As a result, (k) includes 1∼32 to realize an expression of tone wedges of 33 levels in a wide range. Accordingly the number of tone wedges are increased over a wide range without lowering the equivalent resolution.
