PURPOSE:To enable to keep constant the tape tension at all times and also to set arbitrarily, by detecting the difference frequency of a capstan rotating frequency of a pair of tape feed drive sections, and comparing the difference of number of revolution of both the capstans with the reference frequency. CONSTITUTION:A pair of tape drive sections 4, 3 are located at the both sides of a magnetic head with a given clearance, and the rotating frequency of the both capstans 32, 42 are detected with photosensors 38, 48 respectively. If the speed of the both capstans 32, 42 are different, saw tooth wave output of the frequency difference is produced in a sampling hole circuit 8, and this output is compared with the reference frequency at a phase comparator 15, the output of the comparator 15 is given to a mixer 11, and the rotating frequency of a capstan 42 is controlled by superimposing the output on a motor drive voltage being the output of a servo- circuit 10, allowing to keep constant the tape tension of the tape 1.
