Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an injection of water-solubilized vitamin K, resistant to clouding with time, by compounding vitamin K which is a hardly water-soluble substance, with a nonionic surface active agent, a phospholipid, and a sorbitan fatty acid ester.
CONSTITUTION: A vitamin K, a nonionic surface active agent (e.g. hardened castor oil polyoxyethylene derivative), a phospholipid (e.g. phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine, etc.), and a sorbitan fatty acid ester are dissolved in water to obtain an injection. The amounts of the components are, 0.1W1pt.wt. of phospholipid and ≥0.2pt.wt. of sorbitan fatty acid ester per 1pt.wt. of vitamin K. The combined use of the phospholipid with the sorbitan fatty acid ester reduces the necessary amount of the surface active agent which is a possible cause of side effects.
