Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled copolymer resin having excellent heat resistance and film-forming property, and relatively high discoloration resistance, and useful as varnish, etc., by reacting a dihydrazide, a diamine and a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride in a solvent, and cyclizing the product with heat.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A dihydrazide (e.g. isophthalic acid dihydrazide) and (B) a diamine (e.g. p-phenylenediamine) are suspended in a solvent such as N-methyl-2- pyrrolidone. (C) A tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride (e.g. pyromellitic dianhydride) is added slowly to the suspension, and the resulting polyhydrazide-amidic acid is cyclized by heating to afford the objective copolymer resin containing the structure unit of formula I (Ar1 is dicarboxylic acid residue; Ar2 is tetracarboxylic acid residue) or of formula II (Ar3 is diamine residue).
