Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the shock resistance and chemical resistance of a plastic article for use as a car part, by coating the article with a solid or metallic color enamel as an under layer which is used as a thermosetting resin paint for an outside plate of a car body, applying an acryl urethane resin paint as an upper coat layer onto the under coat layer, and then completely hardening the upper coat layer only.
CONSTITUTION: A plastic article as a car part is finished with a metallic or solid color enamel by a 2-coat 1-bake process. In this process, the article is firstly coated with a liquid thermosetting resin paint layer, as an under coat layer to the outside plate of a car body, containing an alkyd resin, polyester resin or acrylic acid resin as a main component for generating a film. The article is further coated with an acrylic acid resin or polyurethane resin paint as an upper coat layer, in a wet-on- wet state. The coated article is dried 10minW72hr at a temperature from an ambient temperature to about 120°C under a dry atmosphere. The upper coat layer is completely hardened, while the under coat layer is still in a not-yet hardened or partially hardened state. The hardening operation is finished at a stage where the gel content rate is 0W75% in the under coat layer while it is 90% or higher in the upper coat layer.
