Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily obtain the die having a projection on a surface by a method wherein a projected die member integrally provided with a projected part and an embedded part is used as an electrode for electric discharge machining, a hole for embedding the member is formed in a die base material by electric discharge machining and the embedded part is embedded and fixed in the hole. CONSTITUTION:When producing the die having the projection on a plane and/or curved surface (hereinafter referred to as the surface), the base material 11 and the projected die member 16 integrally provided with the projected part 7 and the embedded part are prepared separately. The projected part 7 of the member 6 is fitted to a discharge machining head through a fitting jig 10, and discharge machining is conducted while feeding the member 6 as the electrode toward the embedding area in the base material. The machining is continued as far as an imaginary boundary line (a) between the part 7 and the part 8 coincides with a contour surface 3 and a shoulder surface 4. Thereafter, the member 6 is separated from the jig 10, and the embedded part 8 is fixed to the base material 11 by caulking or with an adhesive.
