Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a metal composite material reinforced with highly densely arranged fibers inexpensively with good workability by immersing reinforcing fibers into water or a volatile org. solvent, then aligning these to a required shape, drying these, disposing the thus made fiber bundles in molds, pouring matrix metal and allowing the metal to percorate in the fibers and to solidify. CONSTITUTION:Inorg. fibers such as carbon, glass, silicon carbide and alumina and other fibers used for fiber-reinforced metal composite materials are used as reinforcing fibers. Fiber diameters are preferably of about <=20mu. As immersing liquid, volatile liquids of low boiling points such as methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, acetone, benzene and ether are usable, besides water. Thereby, the fiber molding of high bulk density is obtained, in which the fibers array orderly in one direction and no damages produced on the surface.
