Abstract

Pipes with integral internal support are made by enclosing >=2 tubes of resin impregnated fibrous material within a compatible sheath and curing the resin to stabilise the structure. The internal support is in the form of longitudinal ribs, opt. radiating from a concentric core tube. The fibres may be of glass, carbon, boron or other minerals, used alone or in mixts. Claims include structures impregnated with epoxy resin. Used for mfr. of pipes or tubes with enhanced flexural stiffness and/or crush resistance. The reinforcement maybe mono- or multi-axial, e.g. a tube with a single diametric transverse rib might be used in a bicycle frame for a component subject to flex in a single plane, or for multi stress components with a high stiffness/wt. ratio for use in an airframe, a ski stick, a racquet shaft, etc. Also for conduit for carrying >=2 fluids through separate passages.
