As a result, the recording paper 2 is gone between the light emission element 8 and the photodetector 9 of the paper feed detecting device 10, and it is detected to be abnormal. The receiver is stopped by this detection signal, and at the same time it is informed to the transmission side that something abnormal has occurred. When it is received that said abnormality and has occurred, the transmission side stops the transmission, and the telephone circuit is returned to the telephone side. In this way, occupancy of the telephone circuit caused by an unnecessary transmission is avoided, and the working efficiency of the telephone circuit is not deteriorated.
