Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a silver halide emulsion useful as a crystal substrate for epitaxial mixed silver halide crystals with improved developing speed and fixing speed by using silver iodobromide contg. a specified amount of almost uniformly distributed silver iodide. CONSTITUTION:Silver halide particles made essentially of silver iodobromide contg. almost uniformly distributed 10-40mol% silver iodide are used to prepare an emulsion. When the particles are subjected to powder X-ray diffraction analysis, the half-width of the peak of face index (200) of the silver iodobromide is DELTA2theta<=0.30 deg. using Cu-Kalpha X-rays. At this time, the usage condition of a diffractometer is omegatau/gamma<= 10, supposing the scanning speed of a goniometer to be omega deg./min, the time constant tausec and the receiving slit width gammamm.. A silver halide emulsion showing such measured results includes a mixture of two or more kinds of emulsions having different silver iodide contents. One emulsion may be coated with the other emulsion.
