Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the titled compsn. which produces a smooth coating film without forming lateral stripes, sags and unevenness, containing methylene chloride as a main solvent component.
CONSTITUTION: A coating film-forming component such as an alkyd resin or ethyl cellulose and a coloring component such as TiO2 or a phthalocyanine compd. are blended with a solvent component consisting of at least 50wt%, pref. not less than 80wt% methylene chloride and an org. solvent such as trichloroethylene or toluene to obtain the desired coating compsn. for dip coating, which has a solid concn. of 10W50wt%. A coating method employing the compsn. is as follwes. The coating compsn. is introduced into a dip coating tank equipped with a cooling means on the inner wall surface where the vapor layer of methylene chloride is formed. A material to be coated is dipped and pulled up at a speed of 0.1W5m/min. when the material is passed through the vapor layer of methylene chloride, the smoothing of a coating film is effected by leveling action due to the methylene chloride vapor.
