Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a metal rolling oil of a high performance from reaction of a reaction product of a specified partially esterified polyhydric alcohol and alkylene oxide with a multifunctional compound reactive with hydroxyl groups. CONSTITUTION:An alkylene oxide (e.g., ethylene oxide) is added to a partially esterified reaction product with one or more residual hydroxyl groups, obtained by the reaction of a carboxyl compound, e.g., a C11 or higher carboxylic acid, a polycarboxylic acid ester with a C11 or higher alkyl group, polycarboxylic acid amide, etc., with a polyhydric alcohol. Then, the reaction product thus obtained is reacted with a multifunctional compound with two or more functional groups reactive with hydroxyl groups, etc., organic polybasic acids (e.g., succinic acid), inorganic polybasic acids (e.g., phosphoric acid), epoxy compounds (e.g., ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether), or isocyanates (e.g., methylene diisocyanate) to obtain a metal rolling oil.
