Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the resolving power of an A/D converter by applying automatic gain control (AGC) to the A/D converter during observing in a radio receiver of Dicke type. CONSTITUTION:The electromagnetic wave received in an antenna 1 passes a switch 2 and passes a comparing noise source 3 and a Dicke switch 4 which makes change- over operation at fixed intervals. Thence, the signal is converted of frequency and amplified in an RF/IF circuit 5, is passed through a square-law detector 6 and is adjusted of level at a step attenuator 7. The attenuator 7 forms an AGC circuit by feeding back the output of an A/D converter 8. The input signal is detected by the signal from an oscillator 10 by a synchronous detector 9. Next, it goes through an integrating circuit 11 and is outputted from the A/D converter 8 after it has been A/D converted. A low temp. noise source 12 and high-temp. noise source 13 for calibration are changed over by a change-over switch 14, and at the calibrating with the switch 2, either of the two noise sources for calibration is connected to a radio receiver. After the calibration is completed, the AGC circuit is closed and the AGC circuit is so operated that the input to the A/D converter is always the maximum input voltage even during the observation of antenna input noise.
