Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize a vertical printing for a typewriter having only the lateral printing mechanism, by converting the lateral writing character row into the vertical one by the memory that stores the character or symbol sent from the keyboard. CONSTITUTION:The character data supplied from the keyboard 5 are converted into the corresponding code signals by the controller 4 to be stored into the memory 3 in an arrangement of (a)-(d). Thus a character row (a, b, c) in which the characters are written up to the full limit of the lateral memory capacity exists along with the row (c) in which the characters are cut halfway. The lateral-vertical conversion key is depressed on the keyboard 5 in case a lateral-written sentence is changed to a vertical-written one. Thus the control part 4 converts the character data disposed laterally in the memory 3 into the vertical array and then stores it in the memory 2. In this conversion, the CR symbol is stored in the right edge row of the memory and then the character row (a) is stored vertically at the upper stage of the memory and following the CR symbol. After this the conversion and storage are carried out successively. The contents of the memory 2 are printed at the printing part 1 with a scanning given laterally (direction X).
