Abstract

PURPOSE: An isophthalic acid bearing an alkali sulfonate group is copolymerized and specific inert inorganic fine particles are included to give polyester fibers, which are strongly twisted and treated with an alkali to improve the color-developing property markedly.
CONSTITUTION: Polyester fibers containing (A) 0.1W4wt%, preferably 0.3W2wt%, of inert and inorganic fine particles with an average primary particle size of less than 5μ, preferably less than 100mμ, selected from the groups consisting of silicon- containing inorganic fine particles, oxides and salts of metals of Group II in the periodic table, aluminum oxide, thorium oxide and zirconium oxide and and (B) 1W7mol%, based on the total dicarboxylic acids, of an isophthalic acid bearing an alkali sulfonate group are strongly twisted, preferably to 5,500W25,000 twisting number or falsely twisted. Then, the fibers are treated with an alkali, preferably reduced in weight by 10W30% to give the objective fibers.
