Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of testing by making a beam holding a pin movable in a friction testing machine of pin-flat plate type. CONSTITUTION:A beam 13 holding a pin 12 at its leading end is supported by a supporting body 15 by way of a connecting device 14 provied with a annular metallic frame body 16 and plural steel wires 17a-17f. After the beam 13 is held level by adjusting weights 21, 23 while observing a level 22, the position in the vertical direction of a sample table 26 mounted with a test piece 27 is finely adjusted and the point where the pin 12 and the test piece 27 start contacting is found. Thereafter, a predetermined load is acted upon the pin 12 by weihts, and the sample table 26 is reciproctively moved for fixed intervals. Friction force is measured by using the strain gages stuck to parallel leaf springs. At this time, the beam 13 is movably held only by the elastic deformation consisting mainly of the torsional deformations of the steel wires 17a-17f and therefore the adverse influence of the friction force generated in the supporting part is eliminated.
