Abstract

PURPOSE: A packing having improved sealing effects as a sealing material for a flange joint of a device using a styrene and clorine gas as fluids, obtained by molding a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and perfluoroalkyl vinyl ether in molten state.
CONSTITUTION: A copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and a perfluoroalkylvinyl ether, which is blended with a filler, e.g., glass, molybdenum disulfide, etc., if necessary, is molded in molten state to give a packing which will not break and damage devices and conduits by the penetration of styrene and chlorine gas into the interior of the packing.
EFFECT: Having improved chemical resistance, heat resistance, and nontacky properties. When the copolymer is heated to not lower than a melt temperature (302W 310°C), it shows flow properties, becomes readily moldable, and molded into a wrapping gasket, and packings with various shapes, e.g., packings with U-shaped or V-shaped cross-section, etc.
