Abstract

PURPOSE: To carry out brown dyeing of a cellulosic fiber, with excellent dyeability and build-up characteristics, under rough temperature control, by using a reactive monoazo dye containing β-sulfatoethylsulfone group and having a specific structural formula.
CONSTITUTION: A cellulosic fiber is dyed or printed with a dye containing a β- sulfatoethylsulfone group, a monochlorotriazinyl group, etc. and represented, as a free acid, by the formula I [X1 and X2 are H, methyl, chlorine, carboxylic acid, etc.; Y is chlorine or F; Z is carboxylic acid or sulfonic acid; R is H, acetyl, (sulfo) methyl, etc.]. The dey of formula I is prepared e.g. by (1) condensing a diamine compound of formula II and an aniline compound of formula III with cyanuric chloride, etc. to obtain a compound of formula IV, (2) diazotizing the compound of formula IV with sodium nitrite under acidic conditions with hydrochloric acid, at 0W 5°C, and (3) coupling the diazo compound with a naphthalene compound of formula V in a alkali bicarbonate at 0W5°.
