Abstract
PURPOSE:To make it possible to encode moving pictures with high efficiency by dividing an input signal into blocks consisting of plural picture elements, calculating the value of the error between blocks and supposing a direction to make the error value decrease most acutely. CONSTITUTION:An input television (TV) signal is divided into blocks consisting of plural picture elements by blocking circuit 210 and the output from circuit 210 is supplied to delay circuit 220 in every picture element and differential circuit 230 in every M picture elements respectively in parallel. The output from circuit 220 is subtracted with a forecasting signal outputted from forecasting block formation circuit 250 in subtraction circuit 110 and the forecasting error represented by the difference is quantized by quantization circuit 120. The output from circuit 120 is added to the forecasting signal outputted from circuit 250 and written in frame memory 100. The output from memory 100 is entered into block formation circuit 240 and picture elements of 3 blocks are selected from circuit 240 on the basis of the command outputted from control circuit 220. These selected picture elements and the input TV signal from circuit 210 are subtracted, squared and accumulated and these output is appreciated by judgement circuit 260. After repeating the operation mentioned above by the fixed number of times, the optimum forecasting block is decided by decision circuit 270.
