Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a pharmaceutical for rectal administration having excellent absorbability, by incorporating a specific 7-methoxycephalosporin which cannot be absorbed orally with a mixture of an aliphatic monoglyceride with a surfactant or/ and a medium fatty acid.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of the formula (X is O or S; R1 and R2 are the well- known substituents of 7-methoxycephalosporin) or a salt thereof is mixed with, dispersed or dissolved in a mixture of a monoglyceride of a fatty acid with a monoionic surfactant or/and a medium fatty acid. The reaultant mixture is then sealed in a capsule for rectal administration or mixed with a suppository base to give a solid suppository. Thus, a pharmaceutical for rectal administration is obtained. The compound of the formula is scarcely absorbed orally, however, exhibits excellent rectal absorbability in the presence of the mixture described above and provides a high concentration in blood.
