Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively prevent the leakage of a high-concn. soln. such as sea water by eliminating part of frames holding the ion permeable membranes of an electrodialysis apparatus which desalts said soln., thereby forming a tidal path for flowing the soln.
CONSTITUTION: Conduit holes 2 for supplying and discharging soln. to and from concentrating chambers and diluting chambers are provided to the peripheral parts of frame 1 holding the peripheral parts of ion selective permeable membranes 5, and linear grooves 3, and backing plates 7 covering the grooves 3 and the frame bodies around the same are provided respectively to the one side parts of the frames 1 from said holes 2 up to current supply surfaces 4. Thus, the cavity part formed by the three wall faces of the groove 3 and one wall face of the backing plate 7 serves as a tidal path through which the soln. flows and therefore the flow of the soln. from the holes 2 to the next chambers is prevented by the frame bodies without providing grooves to the holes 2 opposing to the frames of the adjacent next chambers.
