Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture needlelike or prismatic lead titanate having a high axial ratio by reacting lead oxalate powder and an aggregate of TiO2 particles arranged in a fixed direction.
CONSTITUTION: Lead nitrate and/or lead acetate and oxalic acid are reacted in lower glycol to obtain lead oxalate (A) of ≤0.2μm particle size. An org. binder, a plasticizer, a solvent, etc. are added to needlelike TiO2 particles prepared by slowly oxidizing a strongly acidic soln. of titanous chloride with an oxidizing gas at 50°CW the b.p. of the soln., and they are kneaded, formed into a sheet or a thin wire under a uniaxially applied pressure, cut, and heat treated to scatter the binder, etc. Thus, an aggregate (B) of TiO2 particles arranged in a fixed face or a fixed direction is obtd. The components A, B are then reacted to manufacture needlelike or prismatic lead titanate particles.
