Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce costs and improve function of a side hole type scintillator by arranging a phot-reflection material between a radioactive substance insertion hole and a surface of an optical window closely connected to a photoelectric multiplier tube.
CONSTITUTION: A radioactive substance insertion hole 34 is formed in the central part of a casing 32 and a crystal 31. A photo-reflection material 36 scattering light substantially rectangularly to an optical window 33 from a position in the vicinity of the insertion hole 34 is arranged between a radioactive substance inertion hole 34 and a surface of the optical window 33, intimately connected to a photoelectric surface of a photoelectric mutiplier tube. The photo-reflection material 36 is composed of a layer of an alumina powder applied in a band-shape on the surface of the optical window 33. By this procedure, losses received until fluorescent light rays generated at whichever places reach the photoelectric surface can be made substantially equal. Accordingly, crystals which are obtained in large quantities by industrial procedures can be used, and excellent functions can be displayed.
