Abstract

PURPOSE: To ease the distortion, etc. that the cable receives by providing partitions in the spacing formed by opposing two tapes which are bent to U-form in section and putting a plurality of optical fibers in flat type therein.
CONSTITUTION: U-form tapes 2, 3 are of plastics or metals and depending upon cases polyester tapes are used together with partition tapes 4. Optical fibers 1 have protecting covering on the outer side of optical transmission parts and are of about 0.5 mm or more in outside diameter. They are arrayed and contained in matrix form of 4 rows and 4 columns or the like in the hollow spacings formed by the tapes 2, 3 by the tapes 4. As a result of this, the respective optical fibers become independent and distortions and stresses become more liable to ease, thus resulting in improved mechanical characteristics and transmission characteristics. Since the optical fibers are arrayed in matrix form, they become aggregatable in multicore high density type and the identification of the respective fibers may be made easier.
