Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a picture signal with the defect of a picture element avoided effectively by simple constitution, by correcting a defecctive picture element due to a picture signal from a picture element next to the defective picture element on the basis of a defective picture-element detection signal.
CONSTITUTION: The picture reader in which a photo signal illuminating picture elements 2 of severl photoelectric converting elements arrange in a desired shape is converted into an electric signal and read is provided with circuit 5 which detects the defect of a picture element judging from the arrival state of a picture signal of picture element 2. Further, correction circuit 6 is provided which correct the electric signal of the defective picture element on the basis of the absent picture-element detection signal from this detection circuit 5, thereby correcting the defect of main circuit 4 supplied with the picture signal from picture receiver 1. At the time of this correction, picture element 2 is omitted which reside at the end in the opposite direction to the moving direction of a picture to picture receiver 1, and the defective picture element is corrected by signal from picture element 2 at the position in the opposite direction to the moving direction of the picture.
