Abstract

PURPOSE: To mold an inexpensive pad material by compression molding of a soft plastic foamed slab material of a desired thickness at a mold so as to be formed freely with a varied thickness distribution and density distribution.
CONSTITUTION: Soft plastic of continuously foamed slab material 12 which is previously cut roughly matching with the outline of a molding while sliced at a desired thickness is placed on the surface of a lower mold 11. A hardening chemical as a thermosetting resin adhesive is evenly sprayed over the surface of the slab material. The chemical thus sprayed infiltrates into the material 12 from the surface thereof. The molds 10 and 11 are clamped to compressively deform the slab material 12 into the cross-sectional shape of a cavity. At the same time, the inside of the mold is heated to harden the hardening chemical so that the portions free from cell compressively deformed adheres to each other. In this manner, the slab material 12 is molded into a cavity shape. The most thick part thereof has a cushioning property equal to that before the molding while it can be shaped by itself.
