Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve anti-wearing and anti-corrosive characteristics and obtain high density by jointing the fused product of B4C-SiC of a circular shape to an end surface of a carbon product.
CONSTITUTION: An indent 1 is formed on an end surface of the material used as a base for the seal ring made of carbon. The indent 1 is filled with the powder 2 of B4C covered by ethyl-silicate on its surface, and the B4C powder is brought under pressure as well as heated thereby B4C is fused and jointed to the base of the carbon seal ring. Thereafter, the carbon on internal and external surfaces 3, 4 of the indent 1 is removed by scraping and the mechanical seal ring is produced.
