Abstract

PURPOSE: To keep the block space of the magnetic tape at the fixed length regardless of the tape deck by counting the number of the reference clocks which are recorded previously on the magnetic tape and then calculating the prescribed distance from the tape running start point for control of the data writing, the discontinuation of the tape running and others.

CONSTITUTION: When the input/output command given from the CPU is applied to controller 76 via the I/O interface, tape deck 75 runs magnetic tape 31. Thus the reference clock pulses written previously into the control track of tape 31 is reproduced and then counted by counter 77 to be decoded through decoder 78. Decoder 78 performs the writing of data 33 via controller 76, the I/O interface and others when the count value of counter 77 reaches the prescribed value after starting of the tape running and the running distance of tape 31 features the fixed length. And the control is given to the discontinuation of deck 75 through counting of reproduced reference clock pulses after end of the writing. Thus the block space of the magnetic tape always becomes constant even in case some dispersion occures to the characteristics of the deck to be used.
