Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a lithographic material to be enhanced in printing resistance by applying the silver complex salt diffusion transfer method, by adding a copolymer having specified repeating units. CONSTITUTION:A synthetic copolymer having not any affinitive group to physical development nuclei and having functional groups imparting hydrophilic activity and repeating units of formula I (R1 is an ethylenically unsaturated monomer residue; X is =NR3, -O-, or -S-; R3 is H or alkyl; R2 is alkylene, 3 to 8C cycloalkylene, or phenylene; X2 is H, carboxy, or formula II; and R4, R5 are H or alkyl, or a heterocyclic group formed by combining them) is added to a layer containing physical development nuclei or an adjacent layer of it in an amount of about 0.1g/m<2> or less, preferably 0.0001-0.02g/m<2>.
