Abstract

PURPOSE: An inorganic dispersant is ionically bound on the surface of particles of cationically or anionically polymerizing monomer and then the suspension polymerization is effected, thus porducing fine polymer particles with uniform particle size distribution.
CONSTITUTION: A cationically polymerizing monomer, an organic amine hard soluble in water, or anionically polymerizing monomer is added to an aqueous medium in an amount of 0.1W5 wt% to charge cationically or anionically polymerizable monomer (A), such as styrene, acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile. An inorganic dispersant (B) as coloidal silica or alumina, in an amount of 0.1W2 wt% is added to (A), whereby the dispersant (B) is bound on the surface of the monomer particles (B), then the suspension polymerization is effected under high shear stress of over 1000 rpm in the presence of an oil-soluble polymerization initiator.
