Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a high variable power rate at a wide angle of view without increasing diameter by providing five lens groups having positive, negative, negative, positive and positive refracting powers subsequently from the object side and letting these satisfy the specified conditions.
CONSTITUTION: The entire system consists of five lens groups of the 1stW5th groups. The 1st group is stationary during zooming but moves during focusing. The 2nd group moves linearly to perform variable power action during zooming and the correction of the focus movement on account of this is accomplished by the movement of the 3rd group. The 4th group is stationary and an afocal system is constituted by the 1st thru 4th group. The 5th group has action to form image on the fixed image plane position. Respective conditions shown by formula (1)W(10) are satisfied by this lens systems. This suppresses the increase in the front lens diameter and the shape of the maximum iris diameter and provides the zoom lens of a wide angle of view, large aperture ratio and high variable power. (Va is the geometric mean of the afocal angular magnification of the wide angle end and telescope end, F is the focal length of each group, f is the focal length of each lens and d is the thickness and air spacing of the lenses.)
