Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable repair to be readily made through remote operation without interruption of work by using the carbon electrode with an axial through-hole capable of feeding a welding wire at the time of performing build-up welding after melting the peripheral walls of the plural groove hole bottoms pierced along a crack. CONSTITUTION:A carbon electrode bar 22 is lowerd into a groove hole 3 by operating an electrode holding, elevating and moving device 16 and current is supplied thereto to produce arc from its bottom end part. At this time, a welding wire 24 is held detained in the upper part of the hole 25 of the electrode 22. Flux is chaeged into the hole 3 and is melted to form convection. By operating the electrode 22 so as to get required voltage, an onion-form bulge part 8 is formed in the bottom by operating the electrode 22. Next, current is lowered and at the same instant, the feeding of the wire 24 is started. Power source is not connected to the wire and the feed speed is regulated to stabilize the arc. When the wire 24 goes out from the hole 24, it melts and drops owing to the arc heat and as its pool surface rises, the electrode 22 is gradually raised, whereby build-up welding is done up to the uppermost part of the hole.
