Abstract
PURPOSE: To separate particles from a gas, make the particles unfluidized and utilize them as a glass material again, by collecting the particles in melting a glass material and by wetting the particles with an aqueous medium and passing the particles through the gap between rolls.
CONSTITUTION: After a waste gas resulting from the melting of a glass material for centrifugal short fibers is cooled, the waste gas is passed through an electric dust collector so that gathered particles with a very small grain size of about 0.01W100μ are collected together with a large quantity of the gas. An aqueous medium such as purified water is sprayed on the gathered particles to slightly wet them. The particles are then passed through the gap between a pair of rotating rolls. The gathered particles are pressed and the gas is separated from the particles as they progress through between the rolls. As a result, the particles are made into a thin unfluidized sheet with an apparent density of about 0.5W1.5. The sheet is utilized as a glass material again.
