Abstract

PURPOSE:A cheap pack capable of utilizing effectively unworthy stalks and leaves of water oak, obtained by cutting its leaves and/or stalks to give particles which are steamed and boiled, and treated with a specific microrganism to prepare the fermentation product of water oak, followed by blending the product with a pack material. CONSTITUTION:Water oak is dried, and the stalks are cut together with leaves to give particles of 1mm-10cm length, which are washed with water to remove dust. The particles are then boiled with steam at 100-150 deg.C for from 30 minutes to 5 hrs so that they are sterilized at high temperatures and the structure of the stalks and leaves are expanded and extended. After boiling, the particles are cooled to 10-50 deg.C and inoculated with a newly separated variation strain, Bacillus subtilis ON-1 (FERM-P No4608). They are fermented at 15-55 deg.C for 5-15 days to prepare the fermentation product of water oak, which is blended with a pack material to give a safe pack having no side effect and toxicity.
