Abstract

PURPOSE:To let cooling water or the like make even contact with wire materials and impart even mechanical properties to the wire materials by giving the tangential speeds of different magnitudes on both sides of the wire material coils. CONSTITUTION:A set of vertical rolls 19, 20 which laterally oppose to each other is disposed between the conveying rolls 18 of a conveyor 17. The vertical rolls 19, 20 lightly pressure-hold wire material coils 4 from both sides and are driven to rotate in the arrow A, B directions by a motor 23 respectively by way of speed reduction gears 21, 22. The peripheral speeds of the vertical rolls 19, 20 vary with the right and left. For example, the tangential speed of the wire materials 1 on the vertical roll 19 side is larger than that of the vertical roll 20 side and the wire material coils 4 so displace as to be twisted in the direction of the arrow C, thus the wire materials 1 mutually collapse at the overlap parts 2. As a result of this, the wire materials 1 make uniform contact with a cooling medium and are thereby evenly cooled.
