Abstract

PURPOSE: To economically restore an excellent exchange function, by regenerating an ion exchange substance having adsorbed polyvalent cations, in a regenerating neutral salt solution which contains a cation-blocking chelating agent.
CONSTITUTION: Water, which contains polyvalent metal ions such as iron ions, is processed by an inorganic ion exchange substance such as natural and synthetic zeolites. The ion exchange substance is regenerated by a regenerating solution of a neutral salt such as ammonium salt or water-soluble neutral salt of alkali metal, which contains a cation-blocking chelating agent such as sodium tripolyphosphate or ethylenediaminetetraacetate. The ion exchange resin is easily and economically regenerated. An excellent exchange function is restored.
